From Eldoret to Kakamega

Have you read Monday's blog post yet? If so, you know that this is part two of our road trip from Kisumu to Kakamega via Eldoret. If you don't, I'll ask you to go back one article before that. 

Okay, then let's go on. I drove from Eldoret to Kakamega at dawn. The road, which is in good condition, is an important connection between Kenya and Uganda and therefore full of trucks. Since you don’t know what’s up to you in the dark, you’d better stay behind a truck for a while and then stop and drive at only 40 km/h instead of 80km/h. “Safe and sound” is our motto. 

Arriving in Kakamega we went to a bar. There we drank a soda while my friend drove around with the Boda Boda to find a cheap and safe hotel. He actually found this, and twenty minutes later we were there. There was a bar next to the hotel and since it was only 21:00 we decided to go there. 

Saturday is football day and therefore the football game was played on all the screens in the bar. Most people don't even really watch the game because they're on their cell phones, drinking or talking to others. But when a goal falls, everyone jumps up or discusses, depending on which team scored the goal. If you're in this part of Africa, you should definitely go to a bar, because this is an experience that you don't get in Europe. Usually there is also a lot of dancing, which was not the case this time. 

After a long day we fell tired into our beds and agreed that we would start the next day, that is, Sunday at 7:30. Haha, we two Tyrol women were done at 7:40 and went down to the parking lot. My friend and the car were nowhere to be seen. So we decided to shortly walk around the block. Half an hour later we met him at the parking lot in front of the hotel. Then we went for breakfast. We waited 1 1⁄2 hours for breakfast –We ordered toast with egg and cocoa! 
After breakfast we drove again 21km back to the Kakamega rainforest. This is the only rainforest here in Kenya. As we made a four-hour “walk” through the National Park, my friend drove back to town to watch football. 

The walk through the rainforest was mega nice. I was in the south of the park with my sister and mom in November. This time we were in the north. We went to a viewing platform, a hill, and what awaited us there, we could not imagine in the wildest dreams. Get out of the rainforest and into the European forests! Madness, the hill was full of fights! From there we went on to a waterfall and then back to the Main Gate. 

When we got there, five minutes later my friend came and picked us up again. When he saw us, he was glad he didn't come with us. We were fixed and ready and were pretty hungry. After all, it was already 4:00 at that time. After lunch/dinner we drove back to Kisumu and arrived home on time at sunset. 
We were just tired and slept on the sofas. What a weekend! We are so grateful that we are able to experience all this here and also have the time to do this!
